Well, it seems the politically incorrect have won out with this weekend with the inaccurately titled The Karate Kid bringing in a hefty sum in its opening weekend. The 80s reboot starring Jaden Smith brought in 56 million, over half of The A-Team’s opening weekend.
The second 80s reboot of the weekend didn’t fare so well, even with having Bradley Cooper in the lead role. Despite Cooper’s success in The Hangover, box office failure is no stranger to Cooper, after movies like All About Steve and Midnight Meat Train.
The jolly green ogre has finally fallen. This is its first weekend since its opening that the movie has not been at the top of the list. Then again, as blockbuster season approaches, Shrek may not last much longer on the top five at all, especially with Toy Story 3 coming.
The Russell Brand and Jonah Hill comedy under-performed again this weekend. Allen here at The Scorecard Review wasn’t much of a fan, but it seems like most of America isn’t either.
Finally, coming in at number five, is the Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl action comedy Killers. There hasn’t been a whole lot of buzz about this one so it’s hard to imagine it’ll be here with us much longer, especially with some of the big ticket items coming out in the next few weeks.
