Looks like everybody’s making way for what should be an easy number one this weekend. Iron Man 2 is easily one of the most anticipated movies of the year by studios and audiences alike. After all with star power like Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, and Mickey Rourke who would want to even try to compete with that. It makes sense why it’s the only wide release this weekend besides Babies, because there’s no stopping this phenomenon.
I doubt Freddy will be going too far, much to Nick’s dismay and Morrow’s delight. The horror icon brought in a solid opening weekend, but is no competition for Iron Man. Still, I think he’ll stick around a little while longer to satisfy the bloodlust of American audiences.
In third place, I see no real reason for any move in Date Night’s position. There aren’t too many comedies out there right now so I’d imagine the Tina Fey and Steve Carell comedy still has a little bit of box office staying power left in it.
After that, I’m beating How to Train Your Dragon may see a drop in popularity since last week. With Iron man 2 coming out, I’m sure that will steal some of its movie goers. However, I don’t think it’s on its way out yet, resting at number four this weekend.
Finally, The Back-Up Plan saw a little burst of popularity last weekend which kept it from falling off the radar. That’s not likely to happen again this weekend, but J. Lo can dream. My best guess is that this one will be rounding out the list at number five on its way out.
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of May 7 – May 9 …
1. Iron Man 2
2. A Nightmare on Elm Street
3. Date Night
4. How to Train Your Dragon
5. The Back-Up Plan
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
