The heavyweight champ of the week is Clash of the Titans, but then again with Sam Worthington to star, who’s really that surprised? The blockbuster epic took a solid lead with a little over 61 million in the highest grossing April weekend ever.
Tyler Perry proved he’s got the niche market cornered, coming in number 2 with the follow-up to his 2007 film. With only mediocre reviews and no advanced screenings, that didn’t seem to stop many folks from seeing the movie. Although a distant second, it beat out family favorite How to Train Your Dragon for the number 2 spot.
However, How to Train Your Dragon didn’t fall far. Coming in at number 3, it brought in a respectable amount for a second weekend, but this weekend was definitely a tight one for new releases.
The Last Song is proof of that. The Miley Cyrus movie, released last Wednesday, wasn’t enough to secure it a higher spot on the list. It seems that critics slamming her performance won’t help it move up much more on the list.
And finally, Alice in Wonderland is slipping down the list. It took a long time, and last week it was still in the number two spot, but now it's rounding out the top 5.
