Thoughts by TSR: There is figuratively nothing that could make me happier than a sequel to 2010’s MacGruber (though a Hot Rod sequel would be close). I was a fan of the sketches on “Saturday Night Live,” but my initial reaction to a film version echoed one of MacGruber’s very own sentiments: “I got a better idea. No f*cking way.” How foolish of me, because once I saw the film, MacGruber’s marvelous mullet and way with words – “Hoss Bender, dead at the age of who the f*ck cares” – made me fall completely in love. The world has been a dark place living under the assumption that we’d never get another adventure with MacGruber, Lt. Dixon Piper, and Vicki St. Elmo. But now, like the glorious beacon of hope that is MacGruber himself, Will Forte gives us a reason to smile. From his interview with EW:
“We are going to make MacGruber 2 for sure,” he says. “Whether we have to do it with a video camera in our backyards – there will be some form of MacGruber 2.”
Using a video camera and their backyards to save the world make a movie? Classic MacGruber.
Forte is starring alongside Bruce Dern in Alexander Payne’s Nebraska later this year. As good as the father-son road trip film sounds – and it sounds really good – MacGruber 2 trumps it. In a world where movies are riddled with BRRMM on the soundtrack, MacGruber’s cougar growl explosions are music to my ears.
