Thoughts by TSR: These three names alone are enough to make me immediately interested in this film. Sam Rockwell is one of the most enjoyable actors currently working, so his involvement is the biggest draw. Anne Hathaway is a close second, though. Coming off one utterly amazing performance that resulted in a deserved Oscar win (Les Misérables) and one very good performance (The Dark Knight Rises), something smaller like this is a nice choice for her (she also has Rio 2 on the horizon). Chloë Grace Moretz is someone I usually like – Dark Shadows notwithstanding – and I could imagine the two actresses working well together.
That’s a good thing seeing as they should share plenty of screen time. The film, written by Andrea Seigel, is a dark comedy that follows "perpetual adolescent and late-twentysomething" Megan (Hathaway) running away after her boyfriend (Webber) proposes marriage. She pretends she’s going on a retreat, but ends up hanging out with 16-year-old Annika (Moretz). All Deadline has for Sam Rockwell is that he’s playing an older character named Craig. Not much to go on, but I’ll take any Rockwell I can get.
While I haven’t seen any of Lynn Shelton’s earlier films, she has directed a “Mad Men” and a couple “New Girl” episodes. That makes her alright in my book. One of these days I’ll probably get around to seeing Your Sister’s Sister. If I don’t, however, I’ll be happy to make Laggies my first.
