Thoughts by TSR: Bert Macklin FBI just got a promotion! I liked some of the other names that were thrown around – especially Jack Huston from “Boardwalk Empire” and Eddie Redmayne from Les Misérables – but this is better than I ever could have imagined. Chris Pratt is hilarious on NBC’s “Parks and Recreation,” but he’s proven his skillset goes beyond amazing reenactments of Rambo. He was terrific in Moneyball and very believable as one of the Navy SEALs who took down Osama bin Laden in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty. The idea of him running around protecting the galaxy with a talking raccoon makes me impossibly happy.
Pratt will be playing Star-Lord, the half-human/half-alien leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy. The rest of the team includes Rocket Raccoon, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, and Groot. Groot is a sentient tree creature! I love that Marvel is taking a chance on this film. Thanks to the very out there nature, not to mention director James Gunn (of Slither and Super fame), Guardians of the Galaxy might be the Marvel Phase Two entry I’m most excited about. It will be my most anticipated film of all time if we get an original song by Mouse Rat on the soundtrack.
