TSRn: Bill Hader to Take Over for David Hasselhoff in 'Baywatch'
The Scorecard Review news
News: Bill Hader is set lead the new Baywatch parody. He’ll play Mitch Buchannon, the role made famous by David Hasselhoff. Source: The Wrap
Update: While we were desperately excited for this ... Haderwatch could be on hold. Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub from Collider.com reports that Hader is not doing the film.
Thoughts by TSR: The fact that someone is making a Baywatch movie is news to me. I had no idea that it was a thing, and I wouldn’t care at all under normal circumstances. When Bill Hader is involved, however, I start paying attention. Director Robert Ben Garant told The Wrap that Hader will be taking over David Hasselhoff’s Mitch Buchannon role. Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson will both have cameos, naturally.
Thankfully, it will be a parody rather than a straight adaptation. They are going for a “faux serious tone” akin to “Reno 911!” (which was co-created by Garant and satirized “Cops”). The plot will center on lifeguards discovering that an oil rig is actually a meth lab. April is the targeted start date, but Garant said they’ve already shot a trailer. That’s the way to do it!
It might be an idea better suited for Hader’s “Saturday Night Live” – or not at all, considering there’s a certain “been there, done that” feeling to parodying “Baywatch” – but the “Reno 911!” connection has me hopeful. Plus, I always love Hader. Anything that puts him in the lead role is worth a shot.
