Thoughts by TSR: According to Deadline, Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier have been hired to write the fifth film in the Terminator franchise. Lussier, whose most recent writing credit is Drive Angry, doesn’t get me all that excited. Kalogridis, however, is a bit more intriguing. While I really liked Shutter Island, what's most interesting is that she worked with James Cameron on Avatar. Cameron, of course, co-wrote and directed the first two Terminator films. There’s no indication now as to whether Cameron will have any involvement on this film, but it’s something to keep an eye on.
The one thing that has me most optimistic, though, is the producer. Megan Ellison is one of the best things to happen to film recently – her Annapurna Pictures is behind Zero Dark Thirty and The Master, as well as the upcoming Foxcatcher – so her name being attached is a huge plus. Here she’s teamed with her brother David (whose Skydance Productions produced Jack Reacher). We’ll have to wait and see what Kalogridis and Lussier come up with, but for now Megan Ellison is enough to keep me hopeful.
