TSRn: 'The Smurfs' Makes Half a Billion Worldwide
The Scorecard Review news
News: Despite terrible reviews, including my own, The Smurfs passed the $500 million mark in worldwide receipts last weekend. Source: Boxofficemojo.com
Thoughts by TSR: The Smurfs has pulled in $364.4 million in foreign markets since its release. The characters are popular internationally, they were created by a Belgian after all. But the movie is so horrible, it sort of makes me wonder if it did so well because Europeans see us as idiots. Maybe they didn't realize the characters were cartoonish (and I'm not talking about the Smurfs here) because foreign audiences see Americans as being that ridiculous. Regardless, this movie has made a ton of money and a sequel is inevitable.
