News: Sci-fi messiah J.J. Abrams has just signed on to direct Star Trek 2, a sequel to the 2009 blockbuster. Source: Entertainment Weekly
Thoughts by TSR: Truth be told, the fact that Abrams might not direct a sequel to the movie never really crossed my mind. It seems like ages ago that talk of a Star Trek sequel had started and Abrams would be a damn fool not to return to the director's chair.
Still, the fact that it's confirmed is always nice. I know there are always some nay-sayers about the 2009 version Star Trek, which doesn't really follow in the footsteps of the original incarnations. Still, I've never been a big sci-fi fan, so i can't speak to any inconsistencies, but Star Trek was a fun time. If Abrams brings the same spirit of ingenuity and fun-loving that he did to the first one, Star Trek 2 will be something to look out for when it comes out.
