TSRn: Kevin Smith Wants Comic Book Geeks for an AMC Reality Show

The Scorecard Review news

News: Cult filmmaker, Kevin Smith, is currently holding an open call for comic book lovers for a reality show on AMC. Source: Entertainment Weekly

Thoughts by TSR: After sitting through some lackluster Kevin Smith flicks (yes, I'm talking about Jersey Girl) it's nice to see a return to form for Smith. Don't get me wrong, I like a little variety here and there, and Kevin Smith tried his hand at some of them, but why shouldn't he play to his strengths? Needless to say, Kevin Smith's take on geek culture is a refreshing one to say the least.

But I gotta say, my excitement over this project has little to do with Smith. Sure, he's an added bonus, but the fact of the matter is, as a comic book fan (with the Batman tattoo on my ribs to prove it) it's high time we got some half decent or at least realistic representation. When I look at the movies and shows today that try to embrace comic book culture, I always find myself staring blankly at sexless losers, like Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory. There's no room for subtlety or realism in the world of the sitcom, which is understandable, but it makes an actual look at comic book culture more welcome than ever. The project is still in development, but I'm anxiously awaiting another look at Kevin Smith and fanboys (and girls) on AMC whenever it actually hits the small screen.
