Kathryn Bigelow, who is up against amicable ex-husband James Cameron’s Avatar with The Hurt Locker at this year’s Academy Awards, is set to make a splash elsewhere later in the year. Where, you may ask? Well, in your living room of course. For those with HBO, Bigelow is set to direct the pilot of one of HBO’s highly anticipated projects, called “The Miraculous Year.” The show will follow the life of a New York family in a supposedly light family drama. Bigelow will also be executive producing the show alongside Lydia Pitcher and The Aviator screenwriter John Logan, who also wrote the pilot. The pilot is set to begin filming in either May or June, so no word yet on when it will make it to HBO, but this is just one of the many projects HBO has cooking up. Oscar nominee Michael Mann, in addition to several Oscar winners, such as Russell Crowe and Martin Scorsese are each lined up to contribute to various HBO projects. Bigelow’s addition to the long list of high-profile names is just another notch in HBO’s belt in what promises to be a good year for the premium channel. What do you think of Bigelow’s foray into TV? Although this isn’t her first time, it’s a departure from her grittier stuff. Do you think she has what it takes?
