Ricky Gervais will be the first person to host the Golden Globe Awards since 1995. The creator of the British version of "The Office" and star of films The Invention of Lying and Ghost Town will be the man of the hour (or hours) on January 17, 2010 on NBC.
The 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards are clearly doing something a little different and the timing couldn't be better. Last year the Academy Awards went away from a comedy with Hugh Jackman (aka the Wolverine song-and-dance man) as a host. While they called it a success, it now opens the door for another awards show to be the one to make fun of Hollywood while honoring it as well. It doesn't hurt that there's an open bar at the event as well.
Gervais released this statement:
Not only is this the biggest Hollywood celebration of the industry which includes both film and TV, but also an environment where I feel I can get free reign as a host. I have resisted many other offers like this, but there are just some things you don't turn down.
I can't find a definitive list of Golden Globe hosts, can anyone help me out here? Who hosted in 1995?
