In celebration of the 45th year of The Chicago International Film Festival, Cinema/Chicago is announcing that it will add an extra day to this year’s schedule, bringing the Festival up to 15 days of cinematic exhibition. Festival founder Michael Kutza remarks “45 years is a milestone for our festival and as the oldest competitive film festival in North America, we wanted to ensure that we took the time to commemorate our achievements and celebrate our past.” Closing Night of the Chicago International Film Festival will now take place on the evening of October 22nd at the AMC River East 21 (322 E. Illinois – Chicago). In addition to the regularly scheduled festivities, the evening will also feature special surprises that promise to send off the 2009 Festival in style.
As it has for 44 years, the 45th Chicago International Film Festival will offer moviegoers 145 of the best new films from the US and beyond. Audiences will be captivated by a highly reputable collection of full-length features, thoughtful documentaries and vibrant shorts that will showcase both established and promising new filmmakers. From the films of Martin Scorsese and John Carpenter to International offerings from Bertrand Tavernier (France); Peter Weir (Australia); Dariush Mehrjui (Iran); Mike Leigh, Alan Parker, Michael Apted, Peter Greenaway (Great Britain) and hundreds more, The Chicago International Film Festival has consistently opened the door for Chicago to embrace the finest films from around the world.
