Galifianakis joins Paul Rudd and Steve Carell for Dinner
Who ordered the beard? Dinner for Schmucks, a comedy already starring Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and Lucy Punch has just added another name to the list: Zach Galifianakis.
According to Variety, The Hangover funny-dude is on-board to star in a comedy called Dinner for Schmucks, which is set to start filming this fall with intentions of a summer 2010 release.
The film "centers on the most pathetic guest to ever grace one man's weekly dinner gathering. Galifianakis will portray an assistant manager of a mattress store who is dating Carell's ex-wife." It is based off a French film from 1998, Le diner de cons, which was directed and co-written by Francis Veber.
Meet the Parents and Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery director Jay Roach is set to direct the film, which will be co-financed by Paramount, Spyglass and DreamWorks.
It should be some type of comedic feast to watch Rudd and Carell in the same movie again - they haven't shared comedic air onscreen since the two worked at SmartTech in The 40-Year Old Virgin. Add a bit of the odd spice that Galifianakis brings to both his stand-up and roles like The Hangover, and we could be cookin' up something hilarious. But compared to The Hangover, I hope that this script credits Galifianakis as more than an odd one-liner spewing weirdo. Anyone who has seen his stand-up should know that he's got much more potential than that. But working with the other Schmucks, I'm sure he can bring a lot to the table.
What do you think? Does this comedy trio have the potential to give us the most laughs next summer? Is it a casting made in a heaven, a place that is similar to the feeling of looking into Paul Rudd's eyes? Or are you more excited about the other Galifianakis movie due out next summer?
