Nicolas Cage wants to "Ghost" Ride again
While making the rounds promoting the upcoming G-Force, super-busy actor Nicolas Cage spilled a few beans about the possibility of another Ghost Rider movie that might be in the works. If you'll recall, the "original" Ghost Rider film came out two days after V-day in 2007, and raked in a more than decent box office profit ($228 million worldwide) while earning a less than acceptable response from the critics, (27% on Rotten Tomatoes).
Now, the Cagemaster has revealed to MTV News that he would like to "do a reconceive" of the character.
Careful not to share too much information, Cage said: "I would like to go in a whole other direction, and I think that's what they are talking about. I think I would make it much less of a Western and more of an international story."
Considering the money that Ghost Rider made, (though for the record it only made five million more than its budget stateside wise), Cage could very well be victorious in getting another film as the flaming skull comic book character. Columbia Pictures began looking for writers in January 2009 once Cage signed on to the second film.
But a "reconceive"? Scratching my head over here. Is Ghost Rider a salvageable film franchise, especially with Cage's droopy embodiment leading the way? It's possible that a second film could aim for the overall quality that the first one did not - and by that, I mean, have more of a brain to go with its thick, flaming skull. But I'm thinking that if there's anything like that scene where Eva Mendes consulted a Magic 8 Ball for advice, then we'll know for sure Ghost Rider is running out of gas.
