Jackie Chan ready for Karate Kid remake
The Karate Kid remake, titled Kung Fu Kid began filming in Beijing, China this week, reports Variety. The film stars Jackie Chan as the wise kung-fu master and Jaden Smith, son of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, as the eager young student. If you remember, The Karate Kid starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita debuted in June 1984. It may have been overshadowed by two other releases earlier that month, Ghostbusters and Gremlins, but The Karate Kid slowly gained a cult following. There was enough of a fan base that Part II and Part III followed in 1986 and 1989 respectively (yes, The Next Karate Kid came out in 1994 but we'll try to forget that one).
Kung Fu Kid is a joint project between Hollywood and Chinese studios and is set in modern-day Beijing. Norwegian director Harald Zwart, who recently directed The Pink Panther 2, is at the helm.
A traditional Chinese ceremony kicked off the shoot on Saturday, however we cannot confirm if that ceremony included waxing cars, painting fences or sanding decks.
