Chace Crawford & Miley Cyrus to cut Footloose?
After Zac Efron dropped out of the Paramount Pictures remake of the 80's classic Footloose, hope had been lost. Who would ever be able to take his place? Apparently, the studio now has an answer: Chace Crawford of Gossip Girls.
Variety is reporting that the young actor is going to star in the film, and although they never make it too clear, I assume Crawford will be cutting loose as Ren McCormack - Kevin Bacon's famous role.
Although Crawford had been long rumored for the part, no confirmation had been made until just recently when he signed a contract that would also make production work around his "Gossip Girl" schedule. High School Musical head honcho Kenny Ortega, Dylan Sellers, Craig Zadan, and Neil Meron will be producing.
The film is aiming for a June 18, 2010 release date.
Something interesting from the E! Online rumor mill: while Crawford seems to have got the part, it appears that the decision on an Ariel Moore to his Ren isn't far off. But apparently, there's a lot to choose from.
The website is reporting that a close source to the production has said that Miley Cyrus is "definitely in the [casting] mix." Names also being thrown around are Amanda Bynes, Hayden Panettiere, and even "Dancing With The Stars'" Julianne Hough. None of them seem to be as much of a lock as Crawford was, but it's worth noting that all of the actresses listed previously have auditioned for the role - except Cyrus.
This new version of Footloose is said to be edgier and more mature. Does that mean Crawford won't even think about trying to equal classic moments of cinema like this? Never.
