George Clooney to star in A Very Private Gentleman

In news form the Cannes film festival, Focus Features is working on an adaptation of Martin Booth's novel A Very Private Gentleman. Variety reports George Clooney will star in the film to be directed by Anton Corbijn. Rowan Joffe is scripting the story that revolves around an assassin who resists his typical aversion to human interaction before his final assignment in a small Italian town. The relationships he creates complicate his assigned work. Filming is set begin in Italy this fall.

Having not read the novel, I am picturing some sort of cross between two other assassin films I enjoyed, Grosse Pointe Blank and In Bruges, but with fewer laughs. With that in mind, I'm looking forward to this project.
