Verbinski Not Directing Pirates of the Caribbean 4
Looks like I'm not the only one tired of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy. Director Gore Verbinski, who helmed all three films of the series so far, has said that he will not return for a fourth. Variety is reporting that he has told this news to Disney and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. There's no word on who shall take his place, or how it will affect the film's tentative 2010 release date.
He said:
"I had a fantastic time bringing 'Pirates' to life, and I am eternally grateful to Jerry [Bruckheimer], Johnny [Depp] and the rest of the creative and production team. I'm looking forward to all of us crossing paths again in the future."
By no means has Verbinski walked off the career plank - in fact, he's currently involved in three other projects.
Likely to be his next film is video game adaptation Bioshock, which has a script written by John Logan (The Aviator).
Currently, he is working on Rango, a CG-animated film to be released by Paramount Pictures in March 2011. Johnny Depp is voicing the lead character for a film that's written by Logan but based off an idea by Verbinski.
And if that isn't enough, the director's company Blind Wink Productions is also developing a Clue movie as a possible directing vehicle. That film is going to be a live-action mystery based on the game.
