Brokeback Mountain's Ang Lee to direct Life of Pi
The famous novel "Life of Pi" may finally live in movie theatres. Variety reports that Brokeback Mountain director Ang Lee is in talks with Fox 2000 to direct an adaptation of the book. The novel, (for those of you who didn't have to read it in high school), is about a lone survivor of a freighter that has sunk. He shares a lifeboat with a hyena, an injured zebra, a Bengal tiger, and a hyena.
Gil Netter of Marley and Me is set to produce.
Before Lee, the project had seen many faces. At one time, M. Night Shyamalan was in talks to do the film. Then, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, director of Amelie, had worked on an idea for the project with collaborator Guillaume Laurent.
Ang Lee will supervise a new version of the script, which will be penned by a new writer.
