Rumors were circulating that Steven Spielberg would announce a production start date for his Abraham Lincoln biopic on President's Day this year. It appears the rumors were not true. What we do know at this point is that Liam Neeson (who received an Oscar nomination in Spielberg's Schindler's List) is slated to play the 16th President and Sally Field may be cast as Mary Todd Lincoln. We also know that Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tony Kushner (Oscar-nominated for writing Spielberg's Munich) has been working on a script that will supposedly focus on the last couple months of Lincoln's life.
Aside form not knowing when production will start, there is also a potentially major role that has yet to be discussed: the role of Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth. I guess for now we're left waiting in the balcony.
