Jake's Take on his interview with Diane Lane of Secretariat

When it comes to junket interviews, there are pretty much two types -- one big honkin' junket that usually takes place in Los Angeles or New York City or a regional tour in which usually one or two members of the cast travel around the country to different television markets in an attempt to cover more ground and allow for more journalists to participate. The latter option is becoming a rare commodity, and while the down side is that you often times don't get all of the talent that you want, there are some upsides to regional tours.

The atmosphere is much more relaxed. The talent knows that instead of a full day of one hundred interviews, he/she may only have two or three hours and maybe no more than a dozen interviews. This can result in more time with the talent or -- and, really, this is the more important part -- talent who is in a much better mood.

I met Diane Lane for the first time in Dallas for the regional tour of Secretariat and she couldn't have been a classier lady. On time, up beat and more than receptive to anything you threw her way, she is an entertainment journalist's dream. Now whether or not this was an affect of the warm embrace of the relaxed regional tour's embrace, I can't say for sure.

I guess I'll find out when I meet her again in LA.
