Movie of the Week
30 Minutes Or Less
The Stars: Jesse Eisenberg, Danny McBride, Nick Swardson The Plot: Two fledgling criminals kidnap a pizza delivery guy (Eisenberg). The Buzz: Sure, this isn't typical fare for #1 at the box office, and it'll be lucky to strike it rich, but 30 Minutes Or Less has got a lot going for it. Helmed by director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and starring Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland), this film should garner a lot of (possibly) warranted attention. This is Michael Diliberti's first screenplay, so that's scary territory, but based on the trailer, the film looks to have good writing and an interesting/funny story to tell. The only real catch here is Danny McBride. Sure, he's hilarious, but he also plays the same gosh-darned character in every single thing he's ever done. I for one, am very tired of his schtick. Anyone else out there tired too? I think it's time to give someone else a chance. That's a minor complaint though, and I'm sure he'll have his moments in 30 Minutes Or Less. This one was an easy choice for Movie of the Week. The Final Destination franchise needs to just go away, and The Help, while boasting the presence of the wonderful Emma Stone, looks to be kind of hum-drum.

Blu-ray/DVD of the Week
Your Highness
The Stars: Danny McBride, Natalie Portman, James Franco The Plot: When the bride of Prince Fabious (Franco) is kidnapped, he goes on a quest to rescue her, accompanied by his useless brother Thadeous (McBride). The Buzz: Ach, if it isn't Danny McBride again! And here he is playing himself as he would be in the Middle Ages. Still, James Franco's the man, and hats off to him for genre-dabbling, for deftly avoiding ye olde pigeon-holing. This film received pretty poor reviews, but with the direction of David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) and the writing talents of Ben Best and (here he is again!) Danny McBride, this is a good film to throw on in the background, late at night, after a twelve pack of Schlitz. Natalie Portman is woefully overexposed, but I suppose the same hat must be doffed, as she's also dabbling across genres quite well, winning highfalutin awards here, getting half-naked in a schlocky medieval comedy there -- all in a day's work for Ms. Portman.
