If ever there was a time to release a fourth installment in the Resident Evil series, now was definitely a good choice.

Sure, it’s got other movies to contend with, but as the only new release this week and the only 3D movie out there right now, it’s got a distinct advantage, and with an established fan base, that might just be enough to bring it to number one.

I'm Still Here is the documentary (or maybe mockumentary) by Casey Affleck of Joaquin Phoenix attempting to become a hip-hop superstar.

Clooney’s turn as an assassin trying to get out of the biz may have a cliché storyline but come on it’s Clooney. The American brought the heat last weekend and there’s no reason to think this weekend will be any different, so I imagine it’ll land at number 2.

In third place, I think the schlock-fest that is Machete isn’t done with audiences yet. Despite a so-so opening weekend, Machete has word of mouth going for it. The viral campaign just might be enough to secure its spot in third place.

Both Takers and the Last Exorcism have held on as best they could since opening several weekends ago. Even after dropping with some of the new releases, I don’t think it’s time to say goodbye just yet. I think these movies will find their way to spots four and five respectively, rounding out the top five for this weekend.

Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).

It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.

My prediction for the weekend of September 10 - 12 …

1. Resident Evil: Afterlife (in 3D)

2. The American

3. Machete

4. Takers

5. The Last Exorcism
