Thoughts by TSR: Zoe Saldana may be heading back into space. She’s already gone there in Star Trek, Avatar, and will once again in Star Trek Into Darkness. Now she’s in talks to play Gamora in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. I haven’t seen Saldana in a whole lot, but I thought she was one of the better parts of Avatar. I’ve said numerous times that I’m really excited for this film, and Saldana will do nothing to hurt that. Gamora is a green humanoid who is the last of her species. She was raised by Thanos (the purple guy in The Avengers credits) to be an assassin, but turned on him. Thanos will surely figure into Marvel Phase Two (possibly in this considering Latino Review hears that The Controller, Thanos’ main henchman, will be a villain in this film). I imagine Thanos' role in Gamora's upbringing will add some emotion to the space spectacle.

If Saldana signs on, she’ll be joining Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/Star-Lord and former WWE wrestler Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer. That is certainly an eclectic bunch, and the oddness is appealing. Tree-man Groot and Rocket Raccoon are yet to be cast, but I’m eager to find out who will voice (and I imagine motion capture) them. The James Gunn film is expected to start production in June ahead of a 3D release on August 1, 2014. Until then, Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier should be enough to satisfy our Marvel needs.
