Thoughts by TSR: The suspicion of many movie fans can finally be put to rest. Yes, after a few weeks of rumors and even possibly false reports, it's now confirmed that Gordon-Levitt and Cotillard are on board for Nolan's latest. Especially since Nolan likes to work with certain actors multiple times, (Michael Caine, Christian Bale, etc), it seemed very likely that other faces from Inception would make the cut into his third Batman film.
While Gordon-Levitt was rumored to play a Falcone, (continuing the Falcone family from the earlier films), he's actually going to be playing a "Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon." Perhaps he'll play a large part in the manhunt that was hinted at in The Dark Knight's cliffhanger ending?
Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, "a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father's philanthropic endeavors for Gotham." It has also been revealed that The Dark Knight Rises will feature a flashback moment of sorts - so with the conclusion of a big name like Cotillard in this moment, we can at least assume it will be an important part of the film, regardless as to how long it may be.
Both actors provided great performances in last year's Inception. We got knocked around by Gordon-Levitt's anti-gravity fight scene, and we were entranced by the alluring craziness of Cotillard's character. Whether these actors play similar parts in The Dark Knight Rises, it is evident that they're able to work with whatever Nolan throws at them.
