Hi.

This is Jeff Bayer, and I don't update this site very often. If you'd like to listen to my current movie podcast you can find it at MovieBS.com.

New this Week: 'Rango,' 'The Adjustment Bureau' and '127 Hours (DVD)'

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:

The Adjustment Bureau - Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Lisa Thoreson Beastly - Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Mary-Kate Olsen Rango - (voices of) Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Timothy Olyphant Take Me Home Tonight - Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler

Movie of the Week

Rango

The Stars: Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Timothy Olyphant The Plot: A chameleon that aspires to be a swashbuckling hero (Depp) finds himself in a Western town plagued by bandits and is forced to literally play the role in order to protect it. The Buzz: Director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Carribean Trilogy, The Ring) takes a swash at his first animated feature. I thought the trailer for this film was excellent -- Rango looks to be visually stunning, narratively engaging, and comically amusing. Verbinski's adventure-film stripes are well earned -- he knows his way around the genre -- and this looks to be a strong addition to his filmography. I have a feeling this will be a really great film, and I'm a little surprised that Rango's marketing wasn't a little louder.

Blu-ray/DVD of the Week

127 Hours

The Stars: James Franco, Amber Tamblyn, Kate Mara The Plot: A mountain climber (Franco) becomes trapped under a boulder while canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order to survive. The Buzz: I honestly have never felt more happy to be alive than I did after first seeing this film. With the closing credits completed, I walked out of the Oriental Theatre with an extra bounce in my step. I inhaled deeply the cold nighttime air, and proceeded onwards with a potent infusion of giddy optimism. This film had fostered warm thoughts in me, warm thoughts about the beauty and preciousness and fragility of life, and warm thoughts towards my fellow man -- an "all in this together" mantra bounced around in my happy head.

In light of the preceding communique, I'd conclude that this film is certainly a "must see."

Danny Boyle rocks!
