Hi.

This is Jeff Bayer, and I don't update this site very often. If you'd like to listen to my current movie podcast you can find it at MovieBS.com.

New this Week: 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1,' 'The Next Three Days' and 'Avatar (Three-Disc Extended Collector's Edition)'

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 - Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint The Next Three Days - Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde, Liam Neeson

Movie of the Week

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1

The Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint The Plot: Harry, Ron and Hermione set out on a treacherous quest to hunt down and destroy the secret to Voldemort's immortality — the Horcruxes. The Buzz: I am the least qualified to helm a discussion on the buzz surrounding Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. I'm the least qualified to discuss anything at all about Harry Potter, as I've read a mere ten pages of the first book, and only recently caught up with the films. That being said, having watched the first six films in swift succession, immersing myself in Rowling's world, I do find myself pretty amped about this Friday's release. I very much enjoyed the sixth film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince; I thought it was the best in the series to date, and I hope the seventh installment can capture and/or expand upon that which made the sixth film so enjoyable.

Every Friday we'll have new reviews of the latest films. TSR's complete Film Review Database

Blu-ray/DVD of the Week

Avatar (Three-Disc Extended Collector's Edition)

The Stars: Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana The Plot: On a unique mission, a paraplegic marine dispatched to the moon Pandora becomes torn between following his orders and protecting the world he now considers home. The Buzz: Two factions arise upon such a release. Faction one, those who simply loved Avatar, and faction two, those who thought the film was decent, but never quite understood the Pavlovian response of faction one.

For faction one, this release will be an exciting moment as the box boasts over 8 hours of bonus features, including: three movie versions -- the original theatrical edition (which includes a family audio track with objectionable language removed), the special edition re-release (also includes the family audio track option), and the collector’s extended cut with 16 additional minutes (including an alternate opening which takes place on Earth). The special features also include over 45 minutes of never-before-seen deleted scenes, the documentaries Capturing Avatar and A Message from Pandora, screen tests, on-set footage, and visual-effects reels.

Yes, for faction one, this will all prove very exciting. Faction two, I believe, will chalk it all up to "more money in James Cameron's bank account."
