'Iron Man 3' starring Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Kingsley - Super Bowl trailer review

Iron Man 3 Directed by: Shane Black Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Ben Kingsley, Don Cheadle Rating: Not Yet Rated Release Date: May 3, 2013

Trailer Score: 8/10

Thoughts by TSR: Due to an ill-timed muting of my television, all I managed to see of this one during the game was the Iron Man 3 logo at the end. The impression I got was that a lot of people were underwhelmed by these 30 seconds. When I finally got around to seeing the whole thing, however, I was thrilled to find my second favorite movie ad of the Super Bowl (the Fast & Furious 6 spot is number one, because obviously).

What I like most about this is that it focuses on one set piece from the film. I expected it to show a bunch of quick shots of Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle in their armor, stuff blowing up, Rebecca Hall looking beautiful, and Ben Kingsley looking nefarious. Instead, we get pieces of this one scene. That's more satisfying to me than even the full trailer from back in October. The shot of the people free falling out of Air Force One is a powerful one (especially when combined with the music). Tony Stark's dilemma is even greater, and Downey Jr.'s pitch perfect "Oh boy" is one of my favorite things the actor has done recently. If this spot left you wanting more, you can pop over to the film's Facebook page for an extended look. This was more than enough for me. Marvel Phase Two looks like it will be getting off to a great start.
