Thoughts by TSR: While I still don't have a whole lot of excitement for A Good Day to Die Hard, I will admit that this trailer is a good bit of fun. It doesn't tell much of anything about the film, but this is enjoyable while selling the only things that really matter: gunfire and explosions. Lots and lots of explosions.
Apparently John McClane and his son get into all sorts of trouble in Russia. This doesn’t bother saying much about that. Instead it opts to show a bunch of stuff blowing up, a lady stripping down after getting off a motorcycle, and Bruce Willis doing that fantastic Bruce Willis smirk. These are all the things that are likely to make sure people return to the theater for this fifth installment in the franchise, so in that sense the teaser is successful. Some of it falls flat – Willis’ “The 007 of Plainfield New, Jersey" line feels like it should be a lot more fun than it is – but for the most part it achieves what it sets out to do. Depending on how the full length trailers sell it, I might actually give A Good Day to Die Hard a shot. And that’s not something I was expecting.
