MY THOUGHTS: You know those movies that you take a look at the trailer and just know you’re in for trouble? Well folks, welcome to The Warrior’s Way. It’s nothing new. After all, martial arts films, even the good ones like The Protector, are pretty much spectacle first and plot secondary, if at all. I was ready for that going into this. For the first half, I wasn’t disappointed. Sure, there were a lot of people popping out of the ground and doing that Matrix thing where they take about five minutes to touch down but, like I said, it’s all about stylistics with a lot of these types of movies and so I just roll with the punches hoping that the action might pay off. Then again, everyone has their breaking point. Mine? probably around the time that Kate Bosworth spits out that cringe-worthy Southern accent. I get it, the whole “ninjas vs. cowboys” angle hasn’t really been done before. Then again, there might be a reason why that’s the case. On one hand, I can guarantee most folks would’ve complained if it was yet another action flick with the same story as most recent releases in this genre, but cowboys? I don’t know if it’s just the frustration of listening to Kate Bosworth talk or the sadness at Geoffrey Rush’s latest poor life decision, but there’s something about The Warrior’s Way. I might watch it for some cheap laughs or when I can fast forward through the plot to the action scenes, but it might be too much for a theater run for me.
