The times are different but the "life" is true. As a survivor of incest, brutal beatings by a stepmother for 8 years, a life time of verbal abuse by a very embittered father,(I did not understand until after his death) who got stuck with children, he did not want but couldn't walk a from after the mother had done so. In her defense, she ran-- away from my fathers brutal beatings and total control.I did not understand until after his death and the hatred and disdain of a nation - I know this life to be true and yet survivable. At age 60, far from the southside ghetto of Chicago, with an advance degree, I survived but I did not crack any glass ceilings. I have my issues still -- but I'm okay.
Precious says that at the end. She has issues, she is HIV positive, but she has hope and she has love-- her babies. Yep,she's gonna die, but she is gonna die trying to live. Some times, when you are not born with a silver spoon, much less a spoon of any kind -- trying is a step up, one step at a time.
