Dylan Dog: Dead of Night - Blu-ray review

Blu-ray Review Dylan Dog: Dead of Night

Directed by: Kevin Munroe Cast: Brandon Routh, Taye Diggs, Sam Huntington Running Time: 1 hr 50 min Rating: PG-13 Due Out: July 26, 2011

PLOT: Dylan Dog (Routh) investigates the supernatural, trying to keep the peace between vampires, werewolves, zombies and humans.

WHO'S IT FOR? If you like supernatural horror comedies that aren't funny, you will love this movie!

MOVIE:

The filmmakers behind Dylan Dog did their homework, they must have seen a lot of other supernatural films and TV shows. I can tell because they copied what they saw all through the movie. Early on, a guy in a bar buys a "vampire blood drug", yes, it's totally True Blood. Later, the characters enter a zombie body parts warehouse that eerily recalls the waiting room for the recently deceased in Beetlejuice. And yeah, it just goes on like that. A whole subplot is taken from Idle Hands, which wasn't good to begin with. The zombie guy (Huntington) even resembles Devon Sawa. The movie's basically cobbled together pieces from other movies. Like the zombies from the body parts warehouse who replace rotted limbs for new, it just doesn't fit together right. Filmmakers always borrow from their predecessors, Tarantino is notorious for using bits and pieces of various films. But he always creates a coherent whole that works together. I honestly have no idea what this was meant to be. The plot meanders back and forth. But the real problem is that the movie is just bad. I kept having to remind myself to pay attention, my thoughts were wandering while I watched. I'd get distracted, wondering what Taye Diggs was doing in the movie for instance, and forget what was going on. When it first came out, I was questioned why it got dumped into theaters with so little fanfare. Now I wonder that it got released theatrically at all.

MOVIE SCORE: 3/10
