Box Office Challenge
Hitting the screens this weekend …
How Do You Know
I Love You Phillip Morris (expanding)
Black Swan (expanding)
The Fighter (expanding)
With this many new releases, this weekend’s top five is a bit unpredictable. One thing I’m counting on is the success of TRON: Legacy storming the box office. Forget all the hype, this one’s got it all figured out, managing to pull in older fans of the original, while grabbing a new generation too.
Yogi Bear is attempting to get his paws on the family crowd. CG incarnations of beloved childhood cartoons, as a general rule, tend to be frowned upon, but I’m pretty most of their target demographic have never even heard of Hanna Barbera. As much as it distresses me, this one’s got a good chance at snagging number two.
Voyage of the Dawn Treader may not have done so hot it’s opening weekend, but with most kids entering winter break this week, it’s got a better shot at the box office. The spectacle alone will probably be enough to keep younger kids delighted, but evidently that wasn’t enough for Bayer.
Next on our list is the almost universally panned How Do You Know. With a cast like this, how do you go wrong? Well, it seems like they found a way and if early reviews are an indication, director James L. Brooks and company don’t have a whole lot to look forward to.
Finally, The Tourist may make a bit of a ripple this weekend. After it’s mediocre opening weekend, I’m not expecting much from it, but a brief appearance on the top five isn’t entirely out of the question.
Each week we’ll take a look at the box office and see if we can’t nail the Top 5 films (in correct order).
Also guess how many millions the #1 movie will make.
It’s harder than you think. If you don’t believe, let’s see what your answers are.
My prediction for the weekend of Dec. 17 – 19…
1. TRON: Legacy ($50 million)
2. Yogi Bear
3. The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
4. How Do You Know
5. The Tourist
So what are your Top 5 at the box office this weekend?
