Well, Resident Evil:Afterlife cleaned up at the box office this weekend. It’s hard to tell whether it was the 3D gimmick or just the fact that nothing came out but I’m sure it doesn’t really matter to Paul W.S. Anderson or Milla Jovovich. Either way, the couple’s financial future is guaranteed if this keeps up.

The rest of the movies seemed to do a flip flop with Takers, which landed in third place last weekend, reclaiming its second place title. Sure, it’s a distant second, but I doubt that really matters.

The American saw an increase of a couple screens, but a definite decrease in profit. Clooney shouldn’t get used to third, but that’s still got to hurt the ego a little.

Machete saw a drop as well along with its increase of screens. It seems one-liners just aren’t enough to sell the grindhouse flick. Still, I’m not sure we’ve heard the last from Danny Trejo’s Machete.

Meanwhile, Going the Distance seems perfectly content to not be going anywhere. It was in fifth last week and here it is again. Still, anything’s better than nothing for the Drew Barrymore and Justin Long long-distance rom com.
