Hi.

This is Jeff Bayer, and I don't update this site very often. If you'd like to listen to my current movie podcast you can find it at MovieBS.com.

Brendan Fraser wasn't able to kill any animals this weekend, but slasher-master Freddy Krueger was (as he says in the new A Nightmare on Elm Street, "I was just petting him.") Perhaps this was the downfall of the cute and cuddly Furry Vengeance - that or people would rather go see teens cut sliced up than check out another family movie with a ham-handled message about not cutting down trees.

One of the only two wide releases of the weekend, Elm Street is located at number #1 with a decent turn-in of $32.2 million. Despite reviews that are mixed heading towards completely negative, it seemed to do well with the same demographic that turned out when in 1984 when Robert Englund first donned the now famous finger-gloves.

Then there's Furry Vengeance, the new family comedy from Brendan Fraser that bombed quietly in a fifth place take-in of $6.5 million. Moving on ...

In second place came How To Train Your Dragon, which was knocked off its number-one spot from last week with a receipt of only $10.8 million this weekend. For those who are curious, yes, the box-office numbers have seen enough magic, and there will be at least two more films in the How To Train Your Dragon saga.

Just like last weekend, the Steve Carrell/Tina Fey comedy Date Night found a cozy spot in third place, bringing in $7.6 million. Here's hoping that the movie makes just enough more to get Carrell/Fey back together. And hopefully, in a better written movie.

Jennifer Lopez's romantic comedy The Back-Up Plan has been pushed from the #2 spot last weekend to the #4 spot this weekend. It took in about $7.24 million this round, and looks like it's out of ideas to stay anywhere near the top of the box office.

As for next weekend, expect a slight change. There's little doubt that Iron Man 2 is going to blow away the competition, but it will be interesting to see how much Mr. Krueger can make without being able to hold on to the top spot.
