Thoughts by TSR: We should be clear up front that there is no deal yet, but it’ll be really disappointing if this doesn’t happen. Matthew McConaughey has had a fantastic past couple years and things don’t seem to be slowing up at all. Since 2011 he’s been in interesting films such as The Lincoln Lawyer, Bernie, The Paperboy, Killer Joe, and Magic Mike. This year he has Mud, The Dallas Buyers Club, and The Wolf of Wall Street. If he ends up going Interstellar, he’ll be adding Christopher Nolan to a list that includes Richard Linklater, William Friedkin, Steven Soderbergh, Jeff Nichols, and Martin Scorsese. That’s awfully impressive for a guy who was a joke less than five years ago.

All we know about the lead is that he’s named Cooper. Alright, alright, alright, Matthew McConaughey looks like a mighty fine Cooper to me. Beyond that, we do know that the film, which was originally to be directed by Steven Spielberg, is based on wormhole and time travel theories from Caltech physicist Kip Thorne. The script was written by Jonathan Nolan, and then Christopher Nolan came on board and included his own ideas. Deadline says it “will depict a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding.”

While we’re only three months into 2013, Interstellar is definitely one of the more intriguing films to look forward to in 2014. There are those reports that Nolan is going to be godfathering the Justice League movie, but stuff like this has me far more excited. The Nolan brothers playing with wormholes, time travel, and alternate dimensions? Sold. Let’s hope that McConaughey ends up being the one exploring them.
