Thoughts by TSR: I was always going to see Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, even if it was beginning to feel like a lost cause. Nearly eight years after the first film I started to wonder why they were bothering. Well, if Joseph Gordon-Levitt thinks it’s worth it, then my interest is instantly renewed. According to Deadline, Gordon-Levitt will be playing Johnny, a role that was once offered to Johnny Depp. I can imagine a post-Looper Gordon-Levitt fitting in nicely with the world of Sin City, so this could definitely work. He’ll be joining returning cast members such as Mickey Rourke, Rosario Dawson, Clive Owen, and Bruce Willis. These last two names are especially exciting (as is the idea that Josh Brolin might be added, though that’s not confirmed). Dennis Haysbert is also on board, replacing the late Michael Clarke Duncan. I’m going to be optimistic and say this means good things for the Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller sequel. Surely a hot young actor of Gordon-Levitt’s caliber wouldn’t sign on if it was a dud (don’t you dare mention Michael Fassbender in Jonah Hex).

Yesterday we learned that the Inception actor passed on Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla. We also have word that he will not be starring in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. As Deadline says, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is already shooting (it’s set for an October 4 release) and “Gordon-Levitt will mix in his work as he moves through a busy month.” That busy month includes taking his directorial debut, Don Jon’s Addiction, to the Sundance Film Festival. While there he’ll also take the time to host the Sundance Awards ceremony.

After a very busy 2012 in which he starred in four films I liked to varying degrees – The Dark Knight Rises, Looper, Lincoln, and Premium Rush – he doesn’t seem to be slowing down. As a fan, that is a very good thing.
