SNL’s “MacGruber” to Big Screen with Val Kilmer and Ryan Phillippe?
MacGruber, Will Forte’s parody of action icon McGyver, is going to continue the legacy of select “Saturday Night Live” characters by making the multiplex jump.
Similar to what happened with A Night At The Roxbury, Wayne’s World, and even The Ladies Man, a movie based on the “bumbling spy” is officially near the start of production.
MacGruber will start shooting next month, working with a script written by Forte, Jorma Taccone, and John Solomon. The director of this feature film will be Taccone, who is credited with creating the character and directing most of his 24 segments on “Saturday Night Live.”
As of now, there’s no word on plot details for the film.
Kristen Wiig, who plays the role of Vicki in the skits, will keep her role, while Val Kilmer and Ryan Phillippe are in talks to join the film.
Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn, and Ryan Kavanaugh, header of Relativity Media, will produce. Tucker Tooley, Erin David, and “SNL” member Seth Meyers will executive produce.

Don’t get me wrong I love MacGruber (and MacGyver) but there can be too much of a good thing. I hope this one turns out more like a Waynes World than A Night at the Rosbury.
