Slap Shot Being Remade, Paul Newman rolling over in grave?
The 1977 classic hockey film is ready to be remade with Dean Parisot (Fun With Dick and Jane) directing. Peter Steinfeld, who co-wrote 21, is writing the script. Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy will produce.
In the original, Paul Newman played the minor league coach who turns his hockey team into a bunch of violent ruffians in order to re-establish themselves.
Parisot is set for some internet forum cross-checking, but Variety brings up a good point. The remake of sports classic The Longest Yard with Adam Sandler grossed at least triple of what the original made. At the least, maybe this particular remake will inspire people to check out the original.

I can’t think of another movie that made me laugh all the
way through it (Animal house came close) and i don’t
see how they could assemble a cast that could even
come close to the original Slap Shot. It was bad enough
when they made the crappy sequels to this movie, leave it alone.
Pleae do the viewing public a big favor. Longest Yard II was a joke and a waste of time. Sorry, I was even an extra in the crowd at El Camino College. I wasted 2 days doing that for a C+ movie at best. That story was lame.
A remake of Slap Shot was already done and sucked! YOU will insult the memory of Paul Newman, insult the original cast members and you will insult all true hockey fans/players (of which I am one) if you make yet another re-make of Slap Shot. The Baldwin remake was so bad I burned it as I had no choice to buy it as it came with the 25th Anniversary package. Invite Dave Hanson tp your production, maybe he can pound some sense into you guys. PLEASE for the sake of keeping this film what it is.. A CLASSIC cease all production and go make a re-make of “RUDY…the latter years”! The only way you’d get me to pay money to see a remake of Slap Shot is to make the original in 3D, then you’ll get my money!
