TSR Blog – The Twihards Attack (The 8th Annual TSR Movie Awards)

For those that don’t know, a twihard is someone with love for all things Twilight. They love it. They love it hard. Some might say too hard, but I’m not here to judge. I’ll let the twihards speak for themselves (below). I just run a movie website. Hopefully it attracts movie fans who like to talk, think and perhaps even over-analyze films.

My love for films is showcased every year with The Scorecard Review Movie Awards. It gives you a chance to rate/score every film you’ve seen (that matters) in the past year. Yes, my team of writers and a couple of friends come up with every nomination. They’re my awards, I nominate the characters, actors and films that make the most sense. Then I let my readers decide.

There is one problem. Honesty. It’s expected. Trusting an individual is pretty easy. Trusting a group of twihards is apparently asking too much. Let me make this point clear … it’s any fan group that becomes the issue. This easily could have happened with an Avatar fan page, or maybe even the Potter clan, but it didn’t. It happened because of the damn twihards.

A former coworker and wonderful person named Sara runs Novel Novice and Twilight Novel Novice. She made this banner for the awards for me.

Nice. Perfect. Sara also thought other Twilight fans would like to vote for the TSR Movie Awards. You see, I also nominated Twilight: New Moon for some awards. Specifically …

“Best Blockbuster,” “Best Music,” “Best Action Hero” (for both “Jacob Black” and “Edward Cullen”), “Best Ending,” “Best Visual Special Effects,” “Best Screenplay (Adapted),” “Best Actress – Kristen Stewart,” and “Actress of the Year – Kristen Stewart.”

You might be thinking … but The Twilight Saga: New Moon shouldn’t win any of those categories. You’re (probably) right. But that’s not the only point to the TSR Movie Awards. I like knowing who gets second, third … even last. Plus, the film made a bunch of money. People saw it. Why shouldn’t they be allowed to have an opinion on it?

Last year, 823 people voted. It was a record. No problems. This thing started 8 years ago, with me emailing an excel spreadsheet off to my friends and family. I think we had 34 the first year. I was hoping this would be the year we hit four digits.

After just a few days, we have about 150 voters. Well on our way to a record year. Then it happened. The votes starting pouring in.

February 16, a date that will live in infamy to … well, me. I was tracking my stats, and noticed people finding the TSR Movie Awards from

http://www.examiner.com/x-4908-Twilight-Examiner

http://www.twilightlexicon.com

http://www.newmoonmovie.org

http://cullenboysanonymous.com

Beyond those, it hit Twilight fan sites in the UK, Indonesia and many, many in Spanish.

On February 16, I had over 2,000 voters. Then I looked at the results. Everything Twilight was nominated for, was destroying the competition. Destroying. Something had to be done. It was a hostile takeover. I ran some filters and noticed a couple of things.

1. A number of voters were only voting for Twilight and nothing else. Well, that’s not entirely true. Anna Kendrick from Up in the Air for Best Supporting Actress was getting a perfect 10 as well. Yet these voters weren’t voting for Up in the Air for anything else. Not even Vera Farmiga was getting votes.

2. A large number of voters were giving everything Twilight a 10 and everything else a 1. I even created a couple of fake movies, such as Not In This Room for Funniest. And since my dog’s name is Austin, I figured Austin Comes Home for Best Music fit just fine. I was wrong. These people hated these movies.

3. Moon was crushing everything else for Best Ending. Keep in mind this is a film barely anyone saw, yet hundreds were voting for it. I think it did $1.5 million at the box office. My best guess as to why this was happening … Remember when I said the awards appeared on many Spanish websites? I think they recognized the word Moon and decided that must be The Twilight Saga: New Moon. When Moon was the ONLY film hundreds voted on for Best Ending, it’s the most reasonable explanation.

If 2000 twihards vote, along with 200 movie fans … that sucks, but that’s life. If twihards attack, killing all other film’s chances I have to do something.

I decided to quickly remove all Twilight nominees.

That’s when the hate started coming. I actually had Twilight Examiner (Amanda Bell) contact me for an official statement.

Here’s what I said –

“I run The Scorecard Review … Unfortunately, I had to remove ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ choices. Too many twihards were giving everything Twilight a 10, and every other film a 1, trying to manipulate the results.

I love movies, movie fans and I have no problem with people loving Twilight, but trying to kill other movies is not the point of these awards. It was a difficult choice, as I love the attention the TSR Movie Awards have already received, but here is an example of what was happening …

In the BEST MUSIC category, Twilight had a 9.3 score. The next highest was Crazy Heart with a 3.8. That was the next highest! In other words, there were hundreds of twihards who decided the best way for Twilight to win was to give the other nominees a 1.

I apologize to all the Twilight fans who took time, and now don’t have the opportunity to vote for the film they love.

Here’s a side note … Edward was beating Jacob in BEST ACTION HERO/VILLAIN/SUPERHUMAN. It’s pretty funny actually. Edward had the most first place and last place votes. But officially, Team Edward was in the lead.”

Then, Bell decided to add some commentary of her own – “In my opinion, the decision was strange.” That’s it. The hate mail starting coming after that.

Here’s a couple of my favorites …

From Raquel -
Lamentablemente sus sistema de valoración es subjetiva por lo que RESULTA UNA VOTACIÓN NO CONFIABLE, NINGÚN GANADOR SERA REAL, debido a una sola razón LOS VOTANTES SON FANS, NO CRÍTICOS DE CINE, por lo tanto LA DESCALIFICACION ES ABSURDA E INVALIDA.
LA CONFIABILIDAD DE SU PREMIACIÓN HA SIDO PUESTA EN DUDA DEBIDO A SU FALSA E INCOHERENTE DECISIÓN DE SACAR A TODO LO QUE TIENE QUE VER CON NEW MOON Y AL PROCESO DE VOTACIÓN MAL DISEÑADO. NO HAY SUSTENTO EN SU RAZONES

I, um … Yeah, I don’t speak Spanish.

From Aashita

This so not fair… New moon deserves to be in the nominations… u cant just delete them… even though there were ppl who were not voting fairly, there were also ppl who were voting fairly… A lot of twilight fans really wanted to see New Moon win awards and u took that away frm us…

This seems to me the main issue at hand. Twilight fans want to see Twilight win awards. They think that if they control the voting, manipulate the results, and force a win … they’ll feel rewarded. Morons.

From Leticia

Again, what makes you think I know Spanish?

From Stefanie -
HOW DARE YOU UN-NOMINATE THE TWILIGHT-SAGA: NEW MOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys wouldn’t do that to another movie!!! Just because Twilight has A LOT of followers so to speak, it doesn’t give you the right to un-nominate the movie! It is a GREAT movie and it DESERVES all the prices it gets!!!!

Yes, it does deserve “prices.” Don’t you love when a typo negates any possible argument a person tries to make.

From Hannah -
hey buddy hows it going? oh me? freaking sucktacular actually! where do you come off removing new moon?? thats just stupid! of course twihards are gonna do that were obsessive! go suck a cow nipple dumbutt!

I have never been told to suck a cow nipple. But I’m now adding it to my lexicon.

From Victoria -

why???? why did u remove new moon? people like it they can give whatever score to others they want!!! you better put it back up or else you’ll have a LOT of twihards and fangirls screaming at you and not going on here anymoer!!

Victoria. I implore you to hate my website and never come back. In fact, please spread your gospel as far as your 12-year-old (just a guess) voice will carry.

And my personal favorite …

From Taynara Segurado

Bloody Hitlers!

U suck! u are Nazis dictating what people should or should not like! i hope your event goes really bad and i hope u have protesters outside it giving u hell!

This is the stupidity I am up against. Taynara and others thought Robert Pattinson would be coming to my house to receive his award. There’s no event. There’s no big “win” for a film or actor. It’s something I do for fun.

Need more insanity?
There’s more comments here, here and here (the last one has 151 comments).

So what did I do? I sacrificed the original, competent voters and deleted the entire awards. Then I waited for the twihards to lose interest. I thought it might take a couple weeks, since they were so upset on Tuesday and Wednesday. I over-estimated the attention span of twihards. It took three days for them to completely forget about the TSR Movie Awards.

I put the awards back up. Sara (who I hold no ill will toward at all) was nice enough to make another banner for me …

Notice anything different? Yeah, no more Jacob, Edward and Bella.
We didn’t hit four digits this year, but we had a strong showing thanks to …

Fatboy Roberts
Eric D. Snider
Erik Childress

They helped spread the love, and were able to get actual movie fans vote. How do I know people took it seriously? Not one person voted for Austin Comes Home. It was a good year. I learned an important lesson. I hate twihards. Especially when they attack.

I love the Twilight movies because of the books and YES THERE NOT PERFECT BUT I’M THE MOVIE WATCHER AND I SHOULD DECIDE WHAT I LOVE and what was my favorite. And I don’t think it’s fair that Twilight get’s pushed to the side BECAUSE IT’S TWILIGHT FANS LOVE THE MOVIE. This isn’t for an Oscar SO LET FANS VOTE. It’s not our fault that other movie fans AREN’T AS DEDICATED TO THEIR MOVIE like we are. I’M SORRY I understand what your trying to do BUT IT’S STILL BS !

  2. oh. my. GOSH. this is so amazing. I’m sorry that I can’t do anything but laugh at your bad experience with Twihards, but it’s just so brilliant. And so true. And so expected. I wish I had known you to warn you :)

I believe I’ll be writing about this on my blog this week. Maybe I can help show you that all Twilight fans aren’t crazy, or maybe you’ll be further convinced:)

  3. alicia says:

you are such a _______- fill the blank, your lack of education back up the comments up there, even those which are in spanish, or french or german or italian, because WE are educated beyond your comprehension, at least we can ready properly and we actually can do a better job than you. Keep the bad work it will spit back at you.

  4. Gabbie says:

Hey! I’m a twilighter (yes, dif. from twihards, as in, we’re not insane), I saw this whole thing on the newmoonmovie.org site, and found it completely hilarious! the fans can be raving maniacs I’ll give you that, but if you read the comments, there are some twilighters supporting your decision to take off New Moon from your awards. But Alas, in the end it’s your website, you should be able to do whatever the hell you want with it without a 13 year-old fangirl jumping up your throat.
PS I could translate the Spanish stuff, just random advice on how to develop a better rating system :P

  5. Lissa says:

I consider myself a “Twihard”, but I’m not insane. I heard about how you removed all New Moon nominations from your awards, but I didn’t take the time to comment because I just don’t care about your award. (Really, couldn’t you have solved the problem by making it so that everyone only gets one vote, or is there not a way to accomplish this?) Anyway, the problem with being a “Twihard”, is that there are way too many who are crazed, moronic teen girls. I apologize for these people, but please don’t hate all of us, as we are not ALL like that. The sane ones are those you rarely hear from. It’s the crazies that usually take the time to send you their grammatically incorrect rantings. Yes, I am now taking the time to comment, but I assure you, I’m not a mental patient. Good luck next year with “Eclipse”! :)

  6. Nicky says:

    Pretentiousnes at it’s best.
Did it ever occur to you that maybe, just maybe, these fans HONESTLY believe New Moon is that amazing? I’m not saying it is but goodness me. Ask a Trekkie and they’ll tell you Star Trek is the greatest thing ever made. I DOUBT you would have taken it down if they all voted for star trek.

Oh, and, for the record, not all twilighters are twihards. You just seemed to get all the loud, chat speaking tweens attacking you. Some of us are fans that genuinely enjoy the series. Forgive us for not liking movies that you deem appropriate.

    Sincerely,
a former follower of this blog.

  7. Courtney says:

From a Twihard who still has her head about her, does it really matter if the people voted for there favorite film? If your going to try to run your own movie awards review try running it a fair way. Even if its just for your pleasure. If you decided that you would let anyone vote and Twilight New Moon wins everything its in, then that means a mass majority of people thought Twilight New Moon was the best in each of its categories. Isn’t that kind of the point? To see the movie everyone who voted liked best? You could have solved this problem, with Twihards over and under voting, by simply reaching out to the other films fan bases. But instead you chose to handle it in an extremely immature way. I’m sure this doesn’t phase you. Although I thought I should try to explain to you why the move you made was the wrong choice anyway.
As there where plenty of other options for you to take if you thought Twilight New Moon had and unfair advantage. Although I fail to see how it did, especially seeing how you left the polls open to everyone. If Twihards chose to vote the way they felt and apparently that was according to you,
that Twilight New Moon was the best movie ever, as they also apparently didn’t see any other movies as you say “Austian comes home” got all ones, then wasn’t it a fair vote?
If you wanted people who where impartial then you should have had made a committee of people that had to prove they would be voting fair. (IDK how, maybe taking a quiz? or choosing people you personally know?) but then it wouldn’t be a public voted opinion based movie awards review.
The best I can figure is that you understood what having Twilight New Moon in these categories would do, bring in thousands of people to your website. kind of how bad publicity is sometimes the best kind..

Not trying to “Attack” you. this is simply my opinion. And if you dislike it I’m sure you will just delete it anyway..

  8. Melissa says:

I am an admin on a Twilight website and love the films and books….however,I agree with your decision to take the film out of the running. Can you imagine if the Academy Awards were based on the public’s nominations and votes?? Twilight and every other tween movie would probably win based on the amount of fans voting, not necessarily on quality films. You did what you had to do.

And Alicia – are you saying that since he doesn’t speak a foreign language that he is uneducated? I don’t speak a foreign language either, so that must mean I am uneducated, too – even though I write for three columns, taught myself web design, and was an English major in college (I live in America, therefore I speak ENGLISH. However, when I visit a foreign country I respect their native language and try to speak it). You might want to go back and edit your own comment for grammar and typos.

  9. Savannah G says:

I am new to this site and I think the TSR is an interesting concept, however I did not vote. I think in a way the “twihards” helped to put the TSR Award on the map. I am a fan of the Twilight Saga, but not on a grand scale. With any fan based awards their is always a chance of problems. It happens with American Idol all the time. Voting is based on popularity not on content which is unfortunate. I enjoyed New Moon but I don’t think it deserved to win across the board. I would say if I had to choose I would throw in my vote for Screenplay. The concept of the Werewolves sparked my interest and caused me to read the books. I am Native American and I like the fact that the film/book allowed the Native people to portray positive characters, which has not been very common in the industry. Plus the idea of Shape Shifters is found in way or another in many actual tribal legends. I would say next year if you choose to nominate Eclipse, only have it in 1 or 2 categories.

  10. Courtney says:

P.S. i took the liberty of translateing the comment from Letica for you sense you aparently do ot know how to use google translate your self..

It’s really absurd to defend a voting process that has no reliable livelihood, why?
It is a process open to a community of Internet users who do not add ten people if not thousands or millions.
If you plan to think that way is not as consistent assign a score or rating, the scale values are more sensible for small groups where they have greater control of the scores and establishing evaluation criteria for these contests or competitions feed that they had the idea of rewarding that way they would have chosen a jury of film critic and SIMILAR TO ESTABLISHED CRITERIA FOR OSCAR.

Another option is to register as does MTV or the kids choice. (1 VOTE FOR REGISTRATION)
ACA NOT ABOUT THE MORALITY OF MEASURE FANS. SO WHAT’S THAT STAR BEING FANS OF OTHER MOVIES MADE OR THE SAME? BUT NOT AS MINORITIES WERE EXPOSED?

It is unfortunate that SEA AWARDS ITS EIGHTH AND NOT HAVE THE EXPERIENCE OF A GOOD SYSTEM DESIGN VOTE AND WHAT IS WORSE THAN BLAME A TRUE FAN GROUP FOR NOT TAKING YOUR OWN RISK.

THE PROCESS IS DAMAGED FROM THE BEGINNING THAT THIS SYSTEM BASED ON ESTABLISHED THERE WILL BE A WINNER IN ANY REAL TERNA, final results will not be reliable.

THE DECISION TO GETTING A NEW MOON OF COMPETITION IS TOTALLY wrong, ridiculous and baseless.

MORE RELIABLE WOULD THEY CHANGED THE FORMAT OF VOTES, BUT BEING THE BEST THAT THE COMPANY WOULD THAT IS WHAT THEY PUT TO THE TEST FIRST AND ASSESSING THE PRO AND DESIGN AGAINST YOUR VOTE and would save ANGER AFTER MANY FANS OF 8 IN THIS YEARS OLD.

  11. Dessie says:

Oh, please! New Moon, really? Now, don’t get me wrong, I like the books, the first movie was okay, but New Moon: The Movie sucks (no offense, all you addicted people…).
Why does it matter so much? I mean, Twilight did get all the awards possible… Chill and go see a friend or something… Just enjoy your life…
I didn’t even vote. But even if I had, it wouldn’t have been for New Moon. There are so much better movies but you’re so convinced in New Moon’s awesomeness that you wouldn’t look around for anything new and not with vampires in it.
I can just laugh. It’s your life you’re wasting. So, yeah, carry on your important deeds, including:

    1. Getting haircut like Bella’s
    2. Finding a hot vampire boyfriend
    3. Being hunted by a huge vampire coven.

And sorry, if there are mistakes in this, I’m not a native speaker, you know? I believe you understood what I meant by all this, but right after my comment there will be a hundred more, saying how stupid I am for making that and that mistake. While it will all be because I actually said it. OUT LOUD! (Twilight much? I know, sorry about that as well…)

  12. Lexa says:

What were you expecting!  You created an awards and let fans vote and let the fans decide what wins.  If you don’t agree with the results, tough sh*t!  People, when voting, sometimes feel the need to fill in every bubble or box with an answer.  Some of your “bad voters”  probably were doing just that, they hadn’t seen any of the other movies, but felt the need to give it a rating.  It wasn’t some great plot to make Twilight win, it was simple psychology.  I feel that if you don’t that the maturity to understand any of this, maybe you should stop the awards completely.  And maybe the Twihard fans didn’t lose interest, they probably didn’t vote on purpose because their favorite movie wasn’t up.  So not only did you get rid of this “problem” you lost voters.  Maybe instead of freaking out over a simple thing, take the time to realize what you are doing before you scream like a little girl.

  13. Mikey_H says:

I guess honesty is not only too much to expect from people these days, but Jeff should blame himself for being so naive.

    Yeah…that’s a great way to live…

  14. Sheena says:

I would just like to ask you to not to tar all twihards with the same brush. Not all of us are as….how shall I put it….over exciteable and biased. Yes there are undoubtably those that vote Twilight above all others purely because they love the books/movies, but there are also some of us who do actually vote fairly based on genuine like/dislike. Also as a few people have said before me, maybe voters just hadn’t seen the other movies and therefore gave the a 1 based on that reason – maybe you need a haven’t seen option?

And yes whilst I’m sure you would hate the majority of Twihards please do not form an opinion on an individual based on the actions of others. That itself would be unfair and we all know how you don’t like things that are unfair….

PS: Maybe you should be thanking the Twihards as I’m sure traffic increased on your site quite considerably….?

  15. Brett says:

Hey, thanks for completely missing the point, everyone who commented in defense of New Moon.

If you like your vampire/wolfperson movie, great. But the problem is that you voted EVERYTHING else a 1. That’s where the author had his biggest problem with the way the first batch of votes turned out. So next time you vote for whatever flash-in-the-pan teen trend that happens to come along, be sure to vote for the other movies you actually saw and give them a real score too. Then we won’t have a problem with you.

I’ve been a fan of these awards for a few years now. Keep it up because aside from this bump in the road with Twilight, I think it’s an interesting and fair portrayal of what movie fans actually liked that year.

  16. Egomainiac says:

I just read your article and I find it a fascinating piece of egotistical rubbish! Who died and made you the movie God all Mighty to strike down a movie who you deem isn’t good enough to be apart of your voting system The Oscars are rigged and that’s the biggest awards show. Do you really think with all of the performances of this year that Sandra Bullock was the best? NOT. However, you just contradicted your own voting rules. You cannot indicate that the voting is rigged just because the people are not voting on what you want them to vote on.Apparently, you believed New Moon was good enough to warrant your little award now that it appears that the movie that you want to win wasn’t now you want to pull a contender. You indicated in your own rules that you can vote on a movie no matter if you’ve seen 2 or 200. Well if a person only saw 2 movies, then they can vote on their favorite.

You can operate a contest that only allows for 1 vote per day. There’s ways to run the contest without omitting a favorite. New Moon was one of the top movies of 2009. Avatar made more money than any movie in history but it wasn’t the best movie this year…The Hurt Locker won.

Your contest is a FARCE. It’s clearly rigged to the outcome you want. If you can do this to New Moon, who’s to say that you may not have publicly pulled a movie, but not allowed voting for the movie to go tru based upon the results you are seeing. Therefore, people should not participate in this farce of an award. You’ve publicly rigged the contest so it can fit the results you see fit.

Don’t blame Amanda for your ethical problem. What you discussed in this article was not part of the initial contest and you need to be reported to the authorities. You cannot discard the votes cast based upon what you assume. You should not get away with committing fraud. You changed the rules of voting just because the results are not coming out the way you want them to.

You’re a criminal and should have your blog shut down. MTV gives out their movie award every year and almost every year Jim Carey wins won. Should they pull him from getting votes when he wins for best comedian when his movie really hadn’t done well. Twilight was going head to head against a very popular High School Musical 3 with an extremely strong and rabid fan base. Twilight crushed the competition. Did MTV pull either movie just because their fans were voting for them? NO!! You ask the public to vote, let the chips fall where they may.

New Moon’s movie box office demands that it be placed in this competition. But clearly you are a hurt fanboy. Now that’s the bottom-line.

  17. Egomainiac says:

And by the way, the ignorance re: Twilight fans is just foolish. What you ignorant people will never understand is that Twilight fans are not just teens. Twilight fans are females (and males) of all ages. No teen are not the dominant Twilight fan but the avg age of a Twilight fan is between 23 & 55. The media focuses on teens but actual Twilight fans are much more older than what is being reported. So you all need to shut up about this “teen thing”. Even MTV knows the Twilight fans are actually older than what’s being reported.

You are a fraud. A farce. A liar. You changed the rules of the game when things weren’t working out for you. You can’t do that but it appears that you’re getting away with it.

I wish someone would prosecute you for fraud.

  18. TAYNARA says:

I’M SOOOOOO HAPPY THAT I BOTHERED YOU TO THE POINT TO BE MENTIONED ON YOUR POST!!!! LOL LOL LOL LOVED IT!

  19. Nick Allen says:

I think this is a great response, and I must add my two cents. If a movie award ceremony were to be based on the public’s nominations and votes, you’d get … the MTV Movie Awards, which last year had Twilight beating Slumdog Millionaire for “Best Movie.” Definitely a case of “quantity over quality,” in my opinion.

  20. Tyler Foster says:

People’s reading comprehension is really not as good as it should be. The key point here was not so much that people were voting for TWILIGHT, but that they were a) purposefully, blindly voting DOWN everything that was NOT TWILIGHT — just because you think NEW MOON deserves a 10 doesn’t mean THE HURT LOCKER deserves a 0 — and because b) some people were even blindly voting up movies that had nothing to do with TWILIGHT, just because of perceived connections, ala Duncan Jones’ film MOON and Anna Kendrick’s performance in UP IN THE AIR.

It’s also really funny how seriously you seem to take this. It’s just a movie site, one of literally billions on the internet. Who cares if it’s in the competition or not? If you hadn’t heard of this blog, you wouldn’t even know there was anything to get riled up about. To accuse the blogger of doing something “criminal” or committing “fraud” is ridiculous. It practically comes close to spitting in the face of free speech. Genius! The truth is, regardless of whether NEW MOON is a good or relevant 2009 film, the blog owner is in no way in the wrong by ousting it from the competition, just as you are allowed to comment on it (even if some of your specific accusations are pretty far out of line). You’re also allowed to go start your own movie competition where TWILIGHT and NEW MOON are the only voting options, and I have the right to consider that a blatant disregard for what makes art/creativity useful.

  21. Sarah Clark says:

This was the best laugh I’ve had all week. Heard about you reading Eric Snider’s site and found this page from following him on Twitter. I used to work with troubled teen girls for a living and it was my mission to rid each and every one of them of their Twilight obsessions. I heard plenty of Twihard schreeching along the way. Eventually, they were all on my side and have decided to spread the good word as well. :) Keep up the good work!

  22. Nick Allen says:

Yes, of course. Because Nazism is a light and laughable matter, and can easily be referenced in correlation to something related to the removal of “New Moon” (or any film, ever) from a movie blog’s awards list of nominees.

You’re happy/proud about that? No, you’re a terrible person. Shame on you.

  23. Closet TwiLighter says:

I am a Twilight Lover. In fact, I am going to a Twilight convention.
I, however, dislike all merchandise Twilight related (Yes, I know, ironic because I’m going to a convention), and I strongly dislike “voter picked” award winners.
Twi-hards are a little pathetic, and I know many of them.
One of them has admitted she votes for anything Twilight related 50 times, at least. Or until she isn’t allowed to vote anymore.
I support you, fully, for removing all Twilight related nominations. Because, I know for a fact, Twi-hards go overboard just so their movie can win and “get the recognition it deserves”…
Case in point: “Remember Me Saturday”..
Why are they doing a day dedicated to Remember Me?
Because Edward Cullen.. Oops, sorry, Robert Pattinson, is the lead role in the movie.
Not because of the story, plot, or any other reason.
Strictly to show Rob can play a character other than Edward…
So, how does mass amounts of Twilight fans show that Rob can play different roles?

    That is all.
Good for you, I am totally on your side.

    Hi Gabbie.
I also saw this on the newmoonmovie.org site. I am a regular visitor to that site as I have friends on it, however, I consider myself a lot less… Insane… then them.
I literally laughed out loud on that post because of all the things the posters were saying.. really? Just because this man chose to remove a movie from the runnings that was getting skewed responses?

Unfortunately, some of the people that “flipped out” were my friends, but since I read that blog post on nmm.org, I have a hard time reading some of the things they say – because I realized how different, and more sane, I am compared to them.
Nice to see a fellow nmm.org’er supporting the right cause!

  25. Mikey_H says:

Wow, way to miss the boat.

Also, it’s “God Almighty” not “God all Mighty.”

  26. Tana Lee says:

So sorry you do not understand devoted fans…If you open up a competition you have to take the good with the bad.. Obviously you were not ready for the numbers.and couldn’t really handle it.. Good luck because like the mafia… they will remember…….

  27. Morrow says:

    You’re my newest hero.

  28. Gabbie says:

hehehe yes that was my point, even the moderators of the site were completely off the hook with the whole thing…
I was very disappointed with the moderators. It’s the same for me now, I’m kind of avoiding going back because of it, I thought they would be much more mature than that.
The problem is that they don’t actually think it’s a form of cheating what they were doing… they think it’s good that they were boycotting all the other movies!

  29. Gabbie says:

hilarious!! I didn’t know one had to speak foreign languages to be educated.

  30. Gabbie says:

Courtney, that is some seriously bad translation!! I should know, my native language is Spanish.

  31. Gabbie says:

Tana Lee, what those fans did was CHEATING…  I am so sad to know that my being a twilighter stereotypes as a cheater, because people who go out of their way boycotting competition are cheaters, and in the end they get banned from competition.

  32. Closet TwiLighter says:

What had me shocked was that the REPRESENTATIVES of the site (ie Jaypat and LMCullen) were fighting anyone who said what he did was okay.
They, the bloggers, and therefore the known identities, of the site should keep their opinion professional, and NOT bitchy little children.
Yes. Twilight fans CHEATED, they made other movies have extremely low rates because they were too pathetic to give other movies a fighting chance, KNOWING that New Moon shouldn’t win.
Yes, he removed New Moon from the running, he could have changed his voting system, but then Twilight fans would still skewer the results.

No, what he did was NOT wrong. It was completely in the right. It is his site and he has the ability to do what he wants with it.
What is pathetic is how they reacted!

I have separated myself from that site, even though most of them are my friends.
In all honesty, at this very moment, I am ashamed to say they are my friends..

Good for you, though, Gabbie. I saw your posts on the nmm.org site.

  33. Gabbie says:

I know right!? That’s what pissed me off most of all, they were basically saying it’s ok to cheat in order to win!!

  34. Gabbie says:

    I completely agree with you.

  35. MissMolly says:

“You are a fraud. A farce. A liar. You changed the rules of the game when things weren’t working out for you. You can’t do that but it appears that you’re getting away with it.

I wish someone would prosecute you for fraud.”

Wow. Spoken like a true adult there, egomaniac. That statement isn’t helping your argument that that Twilight fans aren’t overwhelmingly whiny, melodramatic tweens. Of course he can do that. It’s his own bloody website, after all. Still, if you feel that strongly, why don’t you put in a call to your local police? Just don’t be too surprised when you hear hysterical laughter over the phone.

  36. Dixie Rae says:

This is just embarrassing. Really. This would be why when I go to see Twilight movies I sit in the back row….with a hoodie….. And none of my real life friends know I’m a fan….

    *goes back into hiding*

  37. jamie says:

hahaha. I am a fan of Twilight but it definately does not top most of the movies this year in ANY catgegory. Twilight (for me) is in a category known as “so bad that it’s awesome).

  38. liz says:

I know right? now I am kinda afraid to say that I am a twilight fan. please don’t kill me!
but this is seriously insane, this people bring fandome to a whole nother level.
yeahh so new moon got pulled out…WHO the f** cares?
because of this people I am seriously afraid to say that I’m a fan b/c THEN ppl expect me to be some kind of freak that can’t talk about anything else then vampires.
anyway so sorry for that- probably (or I hope so) that were just some 14 year old teens not knowing what to do with their overdose of hormones :S

  39. cat says:

I think, Sia… you just proved her right in having to do this. This wasn’t about Twilight fans, it was about Movie fans. Dedication, isn’t voting 10 for one movie, and 1 for another.

  40. cat says:

It is one thing, when they are voting unbiasly, and another, when they happen to vote in a way that is biased. All the 10 votes for Twilight, and the 1 votes for everything else? When it gets to the point, that they think New Moon is so amazing, that everything else is a 1, something is wrong.

  41. cat says:

I think you missed the fact, they were voting everything else, a 1. It wasn’t that Twilight was winning that it got removed, it was that they were winning by a landslide. 9.3 to a 3.8. That is what, a 5.5 difference. That’s like fifty percent. The person running this, also mentioned, they put up fake movies, and these still recieved negative votes.

  42. cat says:

I find it interesting that you call this person out on fraud, when in fact, the voters were basically stuffing the ballet so to speak. Votes 10 to 1 is rediculous!

  43. cat says:

Note that you used the term ‘twilighter’ and not ‘twihard’. *sigh* That is the difference between the two. I concider ‘twilighters’ the truelly devoted fans, and ‘twihards’ not to be anything more then rabbid.

  44. cat says:

I know this is an odd question, but is there any way to filter next years votes to cut out the ones that happen to have 10 and 1 votes only? Without letting the Twihards know of course. This way Twilighters can still get a say about the movie Eclipse when it comes out?

  45. Gabbie says:

true! one of my friends gives you a mean look if you call her a twihard… in her mind twihard=psycopath :P

  46. cat says:

I’ve met people like that too.

  47. brian says:

Wow. Twilight – New Moon did pretty well at the MTV movie awards last night. Best movie of the year. Perhaps TSR owes the world an apology.

  48. MissMolly says:

“Wow. Twilight – New Moon did pretty well at the MTV movie awards last night. Best movie of the year. Perhaps TSR owes the world an apology.” Perhaps not, given that neither mtv voters nor twihards comprise “the world”. This was months ago, build a bridge and get over it.

  49. cat says:

“Wow. Twilight – New Moon did pretty well at the MTV movie awards last night. Best movie of the year. Perhaps TSR owest the world an apology.”

Seriously… why can’t Twihards get the fact that the reason Twilight wins so many of these rewards isn’t because it is the best? It wins because of the fact it is popular, which makes for the win to be shallow. That is, unless the movie really was a good one. Popularity doesn’t equal quality.

  50. cat says:

I mean awards… not rewards… but that is what it turns out to be with popularity trumping quality.
